Dominik Szoboszlai has risked incurring the wrath of Liverpool fans after he appeared to criticise supporters booing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold was heavily jeered following his introduction off the bench in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal at Anfield.

The Reds right-back is public enemy number one in the eyes of many supporters following his decision to run his contract down at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold confirmed he will be leaving the Premier League champions in an emotional statement last week.

talkSPORT understands he has agreed a switch to join England teammate Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid on a five-year deal, worth in excess of £220,000-a-week.

And a large majority of Liverpool fans let their once-beloved academy graduate know what they thought of him on Merseyside against the Gunners in what was his first outing since his exit was announced.

The defender was greeted to a hostile reception after being brought on in the 67th minute, with it continuing every time he touched the ball.

Refusing to head immediately down the tunnel following the four-goal thriller, Alexander-Arnold instead clapped the fans in his penultimate home match.

In unseen footage that is doing the rounds on social media, Alexander-Arnold could be seen walking alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Szoboszlai as boos echoed around Anfield.

It was something that Sboboszlai clearly disagreed with, as he looked at his teammate applauding. before gazing at the fans and throwing both arms up in the air to question the boos.

The Hungary international then flicked his left arm up twice at the disgruntled supporters before walking back towards the tunnel.

His gesture hasn’t gone unnoticed by Liverpool fans, as one X user posted: “He can join him at Madrid.”

Another messaged: “He carries on he’ll get booed and booted out of this club too.”

A third added: “It just shows how players are just so disconnected from our world.”

The booing of Alexander-Arnold has proved to be a major talking point, with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher slamming the treatment of the player.

Though left-back Andy Robertson refused to hit out at fans as he stressed they are entitled to their own view.

He told Sky Sports: “There’s a lot of emotion around it.

“It’s crucial in these moments that I don’t tell you how to feel and you don’t tell me how to feel about it. All I can do is tell you how I feel about it.

Match Stats

“First of all, I’m disappointed to lose my best mate. In the game, we’ve done it all together. He’s an amazing player and person.

“He’s made me a better player and that comes from the bottom of my heart.

“He’s taken me to levels where I never knew existed. He kept pushing me through the good years. And he’s made a choice.

“His legacy at this club is obvious there to see. The trophies he’s won, the moments he’s had in history will always be there. It’s an emotional decision.

“For Trent, it’s not been an easy one. Of course it’s not. But he’s made the decision. It’s not nice to see a friend get booed, it wasn’t nice. But as I said, we can’t tell people how to act.

“I can’t tell you how I feel about it, I’m extremely proud of him. I love him as a player, I love him as a friend. He will be missed as one of my best friends in the game.”
