With the 2024/25 Premier League title secured, Liverpool are now working to improve ahead of next season.
TBR Football understand Liverpool have opened talks to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid as Arne Slot aims to bolster his attack this summer – the Brazilian was strangely left out of El Clasico by Carlo Ancelotti on Sunday after our story broke.
The defence is also in need of fine tuning, as Trent Alexander-Arnold prepares to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his Liverpool contract expires in June.
As a result, the Reds are targeting Jeremie Frimpong – a player who already gave the green light over a move to Anfield back in February 2024.
Jeremie Frimpong said Liverpool move “would be great” as talks now reach advanced stage
When asked about links to Liverpool back in February 2024, the Netherlands international actually talked up the potential move rather than play it down, telling Ziggo Sport: “Liverpool? Great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring.”
Now, it could become a reality.
Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany revealed earlier today (Monday 12th May) that Liverpool are holding advanced talks over a deal to sign the Bayer Leverkusen No.30 after Alexander-Arnold opted to leave, with the Dutchman planning to depart the Bundesliga.
🚨🔴 Understand Liverpool are seriously pursuing Jeremie #Frimpong. Advanced talks have already taken place.
Following detailed analysis and due to his availability, he is currently one of the top options for #LFC to potentially replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Frimpong has a release clause in the region of €35m (£30m) – which represents something of a bargain for a defender aged just 24 with five goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances this season.
Jeremie Frimpong even wanted to join Liverpool during his childhood
Interestingly, Frimpong also wanted to join Liverpool at the age of nine before eventually signing for Manchester City.
The man born in Amsterdam told Rising Ballers in January 2025: “There were scouts there (at a grassroots tournament) like Liverpool, Bolton, Man City and a lot more, but I choose Liverpool first. I was going to sign for them but back then… my family wasn’t driving like that and it was far.
“Man City was local and I tried Man City next and then it made more sense. It was 15 minutes on the bus.”
Now, Frimpong could finally get his wish.
