The Colombian stopper has been outstanding for Bologna over the last couple of seasons and he looks set to earn a move to a major European club.

The 26-year-old has just over 12 months left on his current deal in Italy and a summer move appears to be on the cards with Bologna not wanting to lose the player for nothing next year.

Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus are both showing a strong interest, but there is interest from around Europe, including the Premier League.

Liverpool send scouts to watch Jhon Lucumi

Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Leeds United are among the clubs who have recently been to watch Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

Liverpool are looking to add to Arne Slot’s depth in central defence and have been watching the Colombian international this term.

Left-sider Lucumi has emerged as a stand-out performer since he arrived at Bologna from Genk in 2022. Last season, he helped Bologna qualify for the Champions League, playing a key role in Thiago Motta’s impressive side.

TBR Football can reveal that intermediaries are talking to a number of clubs, informing them of the player’s situation.

When Jhon Lucumi impressed vs Liverpool

Back in 2019, Lucumi faced Liverpool in the Champions League group stage and despite Genk losing 4-1, the defender still managed to impress.

Genk’s defence managed to frustrate Mohamed Salah and his teammates for large parts of the clash before the Reds secured the win.

Martin Keown was very impressed by Lucumi and his defensive partner Carlos Cuesta, urging his former club Arsenal to have a look at signing the duo.

Speaking after the game, Keown said: “If I were an Arsenal scout – and never have been, never been asked to comment ever as a former player on prospective purchases – these two are not bad, I can tell you.”
