Real Madrid have confirmed Vinicius Junior and Lucas Vazquez have suffered injuries following Sunday’s 4-3 defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico.
Los Blancos saw their La Liga title hopes all but quashed in Sunday’s loss at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys as Kylian Mbappe‘s hat-trick proved to be in vain.
The 4-3 loss has left Real Madrid seven points behind Hansi Flick‘s side with just nine points up for grabs in the final three matches.
Real Madrid’s miserable outing was compounded when Vinicius was forced off in the closing stages due to an ankle issue.
Real Madrid confirm Vinicius, Vazquez injuries
Ancelotti revealed after the game that the Brazilian had suffered an ankle sprain, which has now been confirmed following further medical tests.
In a statement released on Monday, Real Madrid said: “Following tests carried out today on Vinicius Jr. by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left ankle. His recovery will be monitored.”
Los Blancos have also announced that Vinicius will be joined on the sidelines by Vazquez, who was withdrawn in the 84th minute of Sunday’s defeat.
The club have confirmed that the 33-year-old has been “diagnosed with an injury to the pectineus muscle in his left thigh.”
Vinicius and Vazquez are the latest names to join a growing injury list, which includes Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, Ferland Mendy and Eduardo Camavinga.
How long will Vinicius and Vazquez be sidelined?
According to AS, Vinicius is expected to be out of action for around two weeks, meaning it will be difficult for him to play again this season.
The Brazilian will definitely miss the next two matches, while Real Madrid are unlikely to rush him back for the final game of the season against Real Sociedad.
As for Vazquez, he will be out for around 7-10 days, ruling him out of Wednesday’s clash with Mallorca and probably Sunday’s away meeting with Sevilla.
Vazquez will hope to prove his fitness in time to play in the final game of the campaign, especially as it will be his last game at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The full-back is out of contract this summer and is expected to officially leave following the Club World Cup in the USA.
