Manchester United have set Ruben Amorim a target ahead of next season.

Manchester United’s ‘power brokers’ have set Ruben Amorim a Premier League target for next season amid their disastrous campaign.

West Ham United condemned Man United to their 17th league defeat of the season on Sunday.

The Hammers ran out 2-0 winners at Old Trafford as Amorim’s side occupy 16th place in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils have recorded just 39 league points this season, having won a measly 10 league matches.

But they could salvage their 2024/25 campaign by winning the Europa League, which would result in Champions League qualification.

Regardless of whether Man United win the Europa League, the club’s chiefs are targeting a top six finish in the Premier League next season.

The club’s ‘power brokers’ believe a top six finish is an ‘acceptable’ aim for next season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

As things stand, Man United are a massive 24 points behind sixth-placed Aston Villa.

This season, sixth would secure Europa League football, with Champions League football on offer for the top five.

Man United have two league fixtures remaining this season.

And, of course, they face Tottenham in this month’s Europa League final, with UEFA appointing a controversial referee.

Amorim’s team resume their faltering league campaign against Chelsea on Friday before facing Villa on the last day of the season.

Speaking after Man United’s latest setback, Amorim called for a ‘strong summer’.

He said: “For me, the biggest concern is that feeling it’s okay (to lose), we cannot change our position so much so it’s okay. That is the biggest problem in our club in this moment, because we are losing the feeling of we are a massive club and it’s the end of the world to lose a game at home. I think that is the biggest concern in our club.

“We need to be really strong in the summer and be brave. We will not have a next season like this if we start like this. If the feeling is still here we should give space to different person.”
