Amid interest from PSG, Dayot Upamecano confident he’ll stay at Bayern Munich

The Ligue 1 champs and Champions League finalists have their eye on Upamecano, but the defender is happy with his current setup in Munich.

Bayern Munich have wrapped up the Bundesliga title and have been able to celebrate at both the Allianz Arena and a quick jet to Ibiza with the Marienplatz celebration still to come, but the summer is going to be hectic for the German Rekordmeister. After a very short time off following the conclusion of the Bundesliga season, Bayern will begin preparations for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which precedes the summer transfer window opening in July. There will be a two-pronged attack of busyness with the tournament going on and transfer business happening behind the scenes as the planning for the 2025/26 continues.

It could also be a busy summer for Bayern in the transfer window, with the top priority remaining to be signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. However, there have also been players linked with potential moves away from Munich and center back Dayot Upamecano has recently been linked with Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 champions and UEFA Champions League finalists are well aware of the fact that Upamecano’s early contract negotiations have stalled and like the idea of bringing in a French international to their back line.

Despite the heavy interest from PSG, Upamecano has reassured Bayern that he is happy where he is, essentially throwing cold water on the links to the Parisians. “My agent is talking to Christoph [Freund] and Max [Eberl]. Everything’s fine. There’s no problem,” the center back stressed after Bayern’s 2-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Allianz Arena, when Vincent Kompany’s side was able to partake in their customary Meisterschale lifting and beer showers (Bild via @iMiaSanMia).

As things currently stand, Upamecano’s contract at Bayern runs through June 2026 and the club still wants to extend with him, but they’ll now have to do so in a fiscally disciplinary fashion. The club spent a lot of money securing the extensions of Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, and Joshua Kimmich, and there could yet still be an extension for Leroy Sané — all of this ahead of the proposed move for Wirtz, which will likely cost the club upwards of €150m transfer fee with an even more expensive overall package.

With that said, a compromise will need to be met between the club, Upamecano, and his representatives to secure an extension within economic reason, but all of the signals suggest that should not be too much of a problem unless things drastically change.
