Arsenal transfer blow, with Chelsea ‘frontrunners’ for Bayern Munich attacker in summer window

3 Min Read

Chelsea are reported to be the leading candidate to sign Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane ahead of Arsenal upon the expiry of his contract in the summer.

The Gunners managed to earn a point against champions Liverpool last Sunday, coming back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2.

Boss Mikel Arteta was scathing of his players’ performance levels in the first half against Liverpool, and with the club likely to finish second for a third consecutive season, it would not be surprising if they looked to bring in several fresh faces.

The Londoners have been linked with a number of forward players, with supporters and pundits insisting that the team need fresh attacking impetuous in order to win the league next season.

While reports suggest they hold an interest in Bayern winger Sane, Football Insider claim that Chelsea are intensifying their interest in the winger amid suggestions that Jadon Sancho could return to Manchester United.

A summer of change at Arsenal

Arteta may soon be able to call upon midfielder Martin Zubimendi given the Spaniard is reportedly close to securing a move to the Emirates from Real Sociedad.

His signing may be vitally important considering Thomas Partey and Jorginho are both out of contract in the summer, and they will need to be replaced if Arsenal are to challenge Liverpool next season.

Up front, striker Kai Havertz has frequently been criticised and with the club being linked with forwards such as Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres, it would not be surprising if a new number nine was first choice in 2025-26.

Elsewhere, interest in Sane makes sense considering the Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka all suffered serious injury issues this term, and Arteta will be keen to avoid another injury crisis by adding depth to his attack.

Chelsea’s summer of change

It has been speculated that Chelsea would be willing to pay a penalty fine in order to send winger Sancho back to Manchester United following his mixed loan spell at the club.

Other forwards like Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have faced scrutiny this season, and both have been linked with exits from Stamford Bridge.

Boss Enzo Maresca will hope that talisman Cole Palmer is given the necessary support in attack in order to help the Blues climb the table and compete against the division’s best.
