A number of Bayern youngsters are currently cutting their teeth in Austria.

Depending on who you ask, the German Bundesliga is not even the most entertaining Bundesliga in Europe!

That honor belongs in the eyes of some to the 2.Bundesliga, home of an exciting title and promotion race this year — or the other Bundesliga…the top flight in Austria.

All of that suits Bayern Munich just fine. As the record champions close in on another domestic title, they are making use of the other leagues to develop their young players on loan. Sporting director Christoph Freund, who arrived in Munich by way of Austrian club RB Salzburg, spoke about how the club views the opportunities across the border — and touched on the current crop of Bayern youngsters trying to prove themselves there.

“The Austrian Bundesliga is very interesting; it always has a lot of interesting young players,” said Freund in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “The level is good for developing young players with potential and quality. We’ve had good experiences.

“Unfortunately, [Lovro] Zvonarek is having a harder time at Sturm Graz this year, playing few minutes. [Matteo] Pérez Vinlöf is doing very well for Austria Wien. Both clubs are playing at the top. Last year, Frans Krätzig also had a very good six months at Austria Wien. The proximity and the language also help, of course.”

Minutes are not always easy to come by, of course, but the experience of a player proving themselves in a top flight competition can be valuable indeed.
