Two consecutive clean sheets round out a title-winning season for the Bavarians — and a perfect send-off for head coach Alexander Straus.

Bayern Munich finished the year’s Frauen-Bundesliga campaign with two straight league wins and clean sheets: a 1-0 road win at Carl Zeiss Jena last Monday followed by Sunday’s 3-0 finale at home over SGS Essen.

The Bavarians finished strong and gave a fitting farewell to head coach Alexander Straus, who has now won the league title in each of his three seasons in charge. This time, it was the largest margin yet over second-placed VfL Wolfsburg — the latest win fixing the final margin at eight points in the table.

With club president Herbert Hainer and CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen in attendance on Sunday, the Frauen erupted into joyous celebrations following a 19-2-1 season where Bayern collected 59 out of a possible 66 points.

“It was special to finish the season with a game like this here in front of our friends, family and fans. I think we’ll have a good time together tonight,” Bayern striker Lea Schüller proclaimed in post-match comments captured via FCBayern.com. And indeed they did:

The visitors, Essen, had an opportunity to score the opening goal inside of ten minutes on Sunday but the crossbar and then a goal-line clearance from Giulia Gwinn denied them.

In the 37th minute, Lea Schüller flew in with a pinpoint header on an excellent cross from the left wing by Klara Bühl. Just before half-time, Bühl supplied another top delivery, this time from the corner flag, and Pernille Harder rose tall at the near post to nod home a second. And Schüller finished the scoring in style with her third in the second half, pressing goalkeeper Kim Sindermann and deflecting the attempted long kick straight into the net.

“Couldn’t wish for a better end to an incredible and historic season. I’m so proud to have won the 10th consecutive championship in my career and to top it off with winning the double and making history with such an amazing team is beyond words,” wrote Pernille Harder on social media afterwards. “I feel very lucky.”

In addition to Straus, Bayern bids farewell to a quintet of players: Magou Doucouré, Tainara, Michelle Ulbrich, Weronika Zawistowska, and Linda Sembrant. The club issued farewells to each player on its website and honored them all at the game.
