The English giants are reportedly willing to pay the price Bayer Leverkusen are looking for.
Bad news for Bayern Munich as long-standing interest from Manchester City is turning into concrete talks between the club and Florian Wirtz. In recent days, Wirtz seemed to ‘promise’ Bayern his signature, whether that would be this summer or next summer. In a sudden turn of events, the momentum could be shifting towards Manchester City, as Bayern Munich has failed to make a deal to Bayer Leverkusen…so far.
Sport Bild is reporting that Manchester City has actually already made an offer to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz:
According to SPORT BILD information, Leverkusen has received a concrete offer from Manchester City for Wirtz! City coach Pep Guardiola (54) has already spoken with Wirtz several times. He wants the international to succeed Kevin de Bruyne as his attacking boss.
The offer comes at just the right time for the Werkself, allowing them to act independently in a transfer poker game with Bayern. The record champions have not yet made contact. Bayern are said to be preparing an offer for €100 million, while Leverkusen has put a €150 million price tag on Wirtz. With City at the negotiating table, Bayer now has another option to sell.
City is likely much more willing to pay the price tag of 150 million euros that Bayer 04 has set for its superstar. Despite which reports you believe, it is clear that Wirtz’s camp is speaking to the English club (per kicker via @iMiaSanMia):
Florian Wirtz is currently in talks with Manchester City. Although there’s no confirmation yet of an offer submitted by City, the fact that Wirtz’s camp is speaking to the English club, who had obtained permission from Bayer Leverkusen to contact them, clearly shows that the player did not give a final commitment to FC Bayern. City would be willing to pay Leverkusen’s €150m asking price, which Bayern are very reluctant to do.
Bayer Leverkusen would much rather sell Wirtz to Manchester City as it would be more financially lucrative for them and also would keep their chances of competing for domestic titles, which would drastically reduce if Wirtz were to move to FC Bayern.
Just as Bayern Munich seemed destined to land the German wonderkid, this turn of events will surely dampen the mood for Bayern fans. Bayern Munich do not seem keen to spend the same kind of money as Manchester City, but the fact that Wirtz’s camp is in open talks with City executives is a bad sign.
You can’t blame Wirtz for listening to what his options are, but this contradicts recent reports that Wirtz is determined to sign for Bayern Munich.
