Exclusive: Liverpool have been in talks to sign £30m star because they have one big worry about Conor Bradley

TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Liverpool have been in talks to sign Jeremie Frimpong since January.

Arne Slot has told Liverpool to sign Frimpong as they have begun working on a potential deal to bring in the 24-year-old as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to join Real Madrid shortly.

Liverpool have full faith in Conor Bradley but even so, they will need two right-backs on their books in the following season after Alexander-Arnold departs Anfield.

However, the Reds’ reason for exploring a move for Jeremie Frimpong is not merely restricted to him being able to compete for a starting berth in the side.

Liverpool in talks with Jeremie Frimpong due to Conor Bradley’s injury record

First things first, TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has been informed that Liverpool are considering paying the £30 million release clause in Frimpong’s contract to sign him.

However, apart from Arne Slot’s side, even Manchester United and Manchester City have been in regular contact with the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back’s camp.

But a key factor behind Liverpool’s decision to hold talks to sign Frimpong is because some people at Anfield have worries about Conor Bradley’s injury record.

Furthermore, the Premier League champions are huge fans of the Bundesliga winner’s versatility, as he can play as a traditional right-back, as a wing-back and even as an out-and-out winger.

Despite several reports suggesting otherwise, TBR Football understands that there is no agreement between Liverpool and Frimpong yet, the former Manchester City wonderkid is keen on a return to England.

What Jeremie Frimpong has already said about Anfield move

In February last year, Frimpong admitted he wanted to join Liverpool.

“Liverpool? Great club, with history. That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring.”

While Frimpong almost signed for Liverpool when he was a child as well, admitting he was keen on the move but eventually chose to join Manchester City.

“There were scouts there (at a grassroots tournament) like Liverpool, Bolton, Man City and a lot more, but I choose Liverpool first. I was going to sign for them but back then… my family wasn’t driving like that and it was far.”

Frimpong added: “Man City was local and I tried Man City next and then it made more sense.”

“It was 15 minutes on the bus.”
