Irate about Ibiza: Not everyone a fan of Bayern Munich’s trip to Ibiza

Boys will be boys…

Not everyone is a fan of the trip some Bayern Munich players have taken to Ibiza.

Mainz boss Christian Heidel is worried about the integrity of the Bundesliga table is Bayern Munich’s players come back worn out from a couple of days partying in the Spanish isle.

“Even though it doesn’t affect us, I think this action is questionable – especially after the trip was canceled a week ago. In terms of the competition, I don’t think this is a good thing. And the discussion that will now automatically arise should have been avoided. But now, all of Germany will be watching closely to see how Bayern will play in Hoffenheim – I expect the boys to be in top shape and give it their all,” Heidel told Bild (via @iMiaSanMia).

Meanwhile, Heidenheim CEO Holger Sanwald took a more pragmatic point of view regarding the trip.

“First of all, we have to win against Werder Bremen to have any chance of directly staying in the league. At the same time, I assume that FC Bayern – as they certainly do in every Bundesliga game – are determined to win and therefore won’t give anything away. On the contrary, theoretically, they could still equal or break their own Bundesliga goal record of 101 goals from 1971/72. And now that the Ibiza trip is being discussed so publicly in the run-up to the game, they certainly won’t want to be accused of anything wrong,” Sanwald told Tz’s Vinzent Tschirpke (via @iMiaSanMia).

As for Bayern Munich’s stance, board member for sport Max Eberl is not about to make a mountain out of a molehill.

“Last week, many decisions in the league were still pending, which our results influenced. The situation is different now, so we didn’t object to the players’ plan to spend their two and a half days off together. We only have one game left, and the players are top professionals; they know exactly what’s at stake. Of course, we’ll give our all to win in Hoffenheim as well,” Eberl told Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
