Arsenal came from two goals down to salvage a draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The Gunners put up a valiant fight against the Reds with 10 men, but, despite a decent performance and result, Mikel Arteta was frosty after the game.
Indeed, Arteta was short after the match, answering questions in his post-match interview with plenty of venom.
Arteta has been known to get angry when things aren’t going his team’s way, and according to Ian Wright, speaking on Premier League Productions, this is actually the angriest he’s ever seen Mikel Arteta after a game.
Mikel Arteta was angrier than ever after Arsenal draw with Liverpool
Wright spoke about Arteta’s post-match interview, and how he responded to this draw.
The pundit says he was happy to see Arteta so irate, noting that he’s never seen him this angry before.
“That is why I’m delighted he’s the manager. He will never be satisfied, he won’t take that kind of performance in the first half and I’m sure he let them know.
“What he was saying about that first 20 minutes, he was just absolutely fuming. I’ve never seen, I’ve not seen him that bad in an interview before in respects of how angry he was, he was steaming.’
What did Mikel Arteta say after Liverpool draw?
Wright says Arteta was fuming after this game, and it’s fair to say he wasn’t happy.
The Arsenal manager went on a bit of a rant about the standards in the team and the challenges Arsenal have faced this season.
“It’s not about the players, it’s about we, nobody accepts those standards, they were nowhere near. What we did in the second half, it hurts, regardless of the excuses, it’s the sixth time we’ve played with 10 men this season and all of the injuries. Look at what we can do when we are there, that’s it, that’s the standards,” Arteta said.
Arteta notes that red cards have made a difference this season, and he’s not wrong.
Declan Rice received a bizarre red card vs Brighton early in the season, while Leandro Trossard saw red for similar against Man City soon after.
Injuries have also hurt Arsenal as the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have all had extended periods on the sidelines.
Ultimately, this has been a nearly season for Arsenal, and you can’t blame Arteta for being frustrated by how things have panned out.
