Liverpool follows Man City and Tottenham with Rayan Cherki ‘enquiry’ as cut-price valuation set

4 Min Read

Liverpool could find itself in a battle with two of its Premier League rivals for the signing of Rayan Cherki this summer.

With just two games remaining this season, and the title already wrapped up, thoughts will soon be quickly turning to the transfer window, with the Reds already looking as though they are making moves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold will of course be heading out of the exit door at Anfield and heading to Real Madrid, and Arne Slot and Richard Hughes don’t look to be wasting any time in securing his replacement. Links with Jeremie Frimpong are growing stronger and stronger, with the latest suggestion that talks with the Bayer Leverkusen star are already at an advanced stage.

That won’t be the end of Liverpool’s transfer activity by any stretch – not if Virgil van Dijk’s comments are anything to go by. Plenty of other names are being linked with a move to Anfield, with Slot having other areas in his squad that will need some attention.

Cherki may well be one of the names in contention this summer. The Lyon star has been regularly linked with Liverpool over the past year or so, and this summer could be the Reds’ opportunity to land him.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, an exit from Lyon looks to be a foregone conclusion this summer, after he came close to leaving the club last year.

What’s more, it’s suggested that a move to England is on the cards. Cherki came close to joining Paris Saint-Germain last summer, only to make a last-minute U-turn and decide upon a move to Borussia Dortmund.

The problem was that the German side had not reached an agreement with Lyon, and so the transfer never went through. Angered by his decision, PSG apparently has no interest in reigniting its interest, which could lead to him making the move to the Premier League instead.

Liverpool is claimed to have made enquiries for the 21-year-old, although so have Manchester City and Tottenham.

Cherki is said to be available for a discounted price, which may well appeal to the Reds. Having signed a new contract with Lyon last summer, it’s suggested that an agreement was made that he could leave for a fee of just $25 million (€22.5M).

Given Lyon’s financial problems, it’s an agreement that the French club will likely have to follow through with.

Liverpool.com says: That’s a price tag that would be very hard to ignore. Whether you think Cherki would be a good signing for Liverpool or not, it might be worth taking the risk for that amount of money.

It would certainly chime in with Richard Hughes’ opportunistic approach to transfers. With 12 goals and 19 assists this season, Cherki is definitely worth a closer look.
