With just two games remaining this season, the summer transfer window is fast approaching – and there could be plenty of work for Arne Slot and Richard Hughes to do at Liverpool.
We of course know the Reds will be saying goodbye to Trent Alexander-Arnold, albeit it might not be too fond a farewell now if Sunday’s reaction against Arsenal is anything to go by. A move to Real Madrid looks to be waiting for him – it’s just a question of when exactly he completes the switch.
Alexander-Arnold’s departure does of course leave a question about he should be replaced at Liverpool. One name seems to be standing out above the rest ahead of the summer window opening.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.
Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth)
Chelsea is increasingly confident of signing Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth this summer, according to TeamTalk.
It is mentioned in the report that there is interest from Liverpool, as well as Arsenal, Tottenham and Real Madrid, with those four sides said to be “very tempted” to trigger the $66 million release clause.
Chelsea is said to be the frontrunner though, having developed a strong relationship with Huijsen’s representatives over months of talks. The Blues are now said to be ready to offer the 20-year-old a seven-year contract.
Liverpool.com says: That will be a massive disappointment if Huijsen does end up going to Chelsea. He looks like he’s going to be a real star, and having him at Liverpool would be massive boost, especially looking ahead at a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
Still, considering he has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and he is known to be a fan of Los Blancos, maybe this is just saving Liverpool more pain in the future. It would be interesting to see him in a red shirt before he heads to the Bernabeu though.
Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)
Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that advanced talks have already taken place with Liverpool and Jeremie Frimpong.
The Reds are said to be “seriously pursuing” the Bayer Leverkusen star, having identified him as one of the top options to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.
What’s more, Frimpong is said to be planning on moving this summer, with a release clause set at around $39M to $44M.
Liverpool.com says: It definitely seems as though Liverpool is more than a little interested in Frimpong. He does seem as though he would be an obvious choice to replace Alexander-Arnold, considering he would be a very attacking option at right-back. Hopefully he wouldn’t stand in the way of Conor Bradley’s progress though if he does make the move to Anfield.
