Manchester City have failed to maintain their usual consistency this season. Constant injuries, the poor form of some key players and an overstretched squad have left Guardiola with few resources. The club have stumbled in several important games and dropped vital points, which now puts their qualification for next season’s Champions League in doubt. As fans watch nervously, the board have begun to make moves to strengthen the squad. One of the names that has gained strength in the offices is that of Tijjani Reijnders, a Dutch midfielder who plays for AC Milan.

According to The Athletic, the English side have already earmarked the Dutchman as a firm target for this summer. Reijnders, a 26-year-old, has the physical and technical profile that Guardiola appreciates. He can move freely in midfield, maintains a steady pace and can change the tempo of the game with a through ball or close control. Although his usual role is as a deep-lying midfielder, he has also performed as a defensive midfielder when necessary.

He has played in the Champions League with Milan in his two years in Italy, establishing himself as a starter. The midfielder’s consistency and availability make him an attractive option for a City side that have suffered from recurring injuries. Guardiola needs reliable players with fresh legs, and Reijnders fits the bill. The priority now is to restore balance in midfield, and the Dutch international could be part of that solution. The management values his versatility and consistency, key elements after a year full of ups and downs.

How will he help the club?

City need to make clear decisions. The current squad can no longer sustain the pace demanded by all competitions. If the club wants to return to dominance in England and compete in Europe, they must add players who combine tactical intelligence, physical ability and collective commitment. Reijnders could bring each of those traits. His arrival would allow Rodri to be rested more often, something that has been impossible, and the team has also suffered with his injury.

In addition, he would add depth in an area where Gündogan is no longer available and where Kovacic has not fully convinced. Tactically, the Dutchman could function in a double pivot or as an inside player with defensive responsibilities. The midfielder has the ability to move the ball, occupies space well and presses with determination. In a team like Guardiola’s, where everything revolves around control, those attributes become gold. If the club can sign him, they will have a useful and adaptable player who would help reduce the physical burden on the first team players and offer a real alternative in demanding games. City cannot repeat another campaign with so many doubts. If they want to get back to the top, they must sign wisely, and Reijnders seems a logical choice.
