Report: Aston Villa now close to signing ‘world class’ player in £13m deal, contract will run until June 2028

Aston Villa are yet to discover what European competition they will partake in next season, but a signing is already close to being sealed nonetheless.

The Villans will definitely be playing in the UEFA Conference League, at least, after the 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, although Unai Emery could yet take Aston Villa back into the UEFA Champions League with two Premier League games remaining.

Behind the scenes, Monchi – President of Football Operations at Villa Park – is working hard to prepare Aston Villa for another season of European football, with a permanent deal for Marco Asensio now arranged.

Aston Villa set to sign Marco Asensio from PSG on a permanent basis

Estadio Deportivo now reveal that Aston Villa are all set to sign the Spain international permanently.

The Spanish news outlet believe Asensio has agreed a three-year contract with the Villans which will run until June 2028, and Aston Villa will pay roughly €15m (£13m) to PSG.

That may seem quite a low fee for an experienced player of real quality, but the man from Palma only has 12 months left on his contract at the Parc des Princes, so PSG would lose him for nothing next summer if a sale does not materialise this summer.

Fortunately for both PSG and Aston Villa, a sale has materialised, with Estadio Deportivo claiming that this deal will be announced as soon as the season ends.

Asensio – who is described as a “world class” player – has impressed on loan in the Midlands since his January arrival, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in 19 appearances.

Monchi could deliver Unai Emery a new goalkeeper next

Once Asensio is signed permanently, Aston Villa could buy Joan Garcia from Espanyol.

There is talk of Emiliano Martinez leaving the Midlands for Saudi Arabia, which has put Aston Villa on alert to the goalkeeping market.

However, Arsenal also want Garcia – as do Manchester United – so it seems this will not be a straightforward deal to complete.
