Still, they are taking their time.

Bayern Munich’s negotiations with Dayot Upamecano over a new contract past 2026 are still ongoing. In February, it seemed that things were going very smoothly and that he would even renew before Joshua Kimmich does. It has been two months since Kimmich renewed, however, and there is still no sign of an agreement with the Frenchman.

A report from Florian Plettenberg suggests that differences in the expectations for the financial package is the reason behind the delay:

Dayot Upamecano’s contract extension at FC Bayern is still not a done deal. There is no agreement yet on salary and signing fee.

However, Bayern want to keep him, and an extension until 2030 remains on the table. The deal is still alive, and Upamecano’s camp does not currently consider the extension to be at risk. Talks are ongoing.

After the long delay, Bayern fans may have been worried about the deal collapsing and Upamecano going into the last year of his contract with the Bavarians. But, as of now, that does not seem to be the case.
