Espanyol vs Barcelona: Espanyol returned to the top flight this season, but their start to the season was somewhat shaky. Despite that, they improved their performance in the second half of the season. However, that improvement has not been enough to prevent them from sliding down the table again. The team coached by Manolo González is going through a bad streak, accumulating three defeats in a row. The latest came at the weekend, when they lost 3-2 to Leganés at Butarque.

In that match, the Blue and Whites were 3-0 down against a team fighting for relegation. That lack of reaction in the opening minutes again cost them dearly. Barcelona, meanwhile, go into the game in high spirits after coming from 2-0 down to beat Real Madrid 4-3 in another pulsating derby. That victory has them dreaming of completing a domestic double this week. Hansi Flick’s side have already lifted the Copa del Rey with a 3-2 extra-time win over Madrid at La Cartuja.

However, they missed out on the treble when they were eliminated by Inter in the Champions League semi-finals 7-6 on aggregate at the RCDE Stadium. Now, they are looking to close the league with a bang. Inigo Martinez (Suspended), Marc Bernal (Injured), Dani Rodriguez (Injured),  Pau Cubarsi (Illness), and Kounde (Injured) will be sidelined from this game for Barcelona. Let us take a look at the predicted Barcelona lineup for this game.

Defense:

Barcelona’s defence aims to maintain order with a firm back four. Szczesny will be in goal and will take control from the back. Eric Garcia will occupy the right-back position and will look to support the defence without neglecting his markers. Araujo and Christensen will form the central pairing, with physical presence and good positioning. Both centre-backs are extremely physical and don’t shy away from contact. Alex Balde will play on the left and will use his speed to join the attack. His quick return to position will be key when hit on the counter. This backline should contain an Espanyol side that will attack with urgency at home.

Midfield:

In midfield, De Jong and Pedri will take on the pivot roles in the formation. Both will act as central midfielders, with Pedri offering greater mobility. De Jong will cut through opposition lines and distribute calmly from the back. His ability to turn under pressure allows him to maintain possession. Pedri will accelerate when he finds space, connecting with the attacking line. The two must manage the tempo of the game and avoid losing possession in dangerous areas. The balance they offer will be decisive in maintaining the team’s structure. Their understanding improves every week and provides a solid base to build the game.

Attack:

The offensive area of the pitch presents dynamism and individual talent. Lamine Yamal will start on the right by taking on full-backs in one-on-one situations. Raphinha will play on the left and look for diagonal runs to run in behind the defence. Dani Olmo will play as an attacking midfielder, with the freedom to move between the lines and create superiority. His vision allows him to set up the wingers with precise passes. Lewandowski will be the striker and will attack the box with intelligence, waiting for crosses or looking for the finish after accurate passes. This attacking line can punish a defence that has shown weaknesses in transition.
