Gosens sees Thomas Müller coming to Italy to bring his European career to a close in life after Bayern.

Thomas Müller has now officially played his final home match for Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena and his time with the German Rekordmeister after 17 years is coming to an end. Prior to the club’s announcement that they would not be extending his contract for another year, the idea of a Bayern team without Müller in it seemed inexplicable even though he’s nearing closer to the age of hanging up his playing boots for good, but it’s a bittersweet reality that has set in. Müller will play for Bayern in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer in the United States, and then that’s it; the long, well-decorated, and historic chapter of the Raumdeuter at Bayern is over.

So, what’s next for Bayern’s iconic number 25? Will he go to Saudi Arabia? Will he go elsewhere in Europe? Will he go to the United States to play in the MLS, or will he simply just take some time off before making his next move and starting a new chapter.

There are plenty of options on offer for Müller, but former German national team teammate Robin Gosens recently explained that he feels Mr. Bayern himself should move to Fiorentina in Serie A. Gosens has been with the Italian outfit on loan this season from Union Berlin and has previously had tenures with fellow Serie A sides Atalanta and Inter. “I think the football-crazy fans in Italy would welcome him with open arms. Tuscany is very beautiful. Good food, dear Thomas, lots of sun. So, the adventure would certainly be worth it for you,” the defender recently told RTL (via @iMiaSanMia).

If he was to take Gosen’s advice, Müller would be following in the footsteps of Bayern legend Franck Ribery, who joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2019 after 12 years in Munich, having scored a memorable goal in the final match of the season against Eintracht Frankfurt that helped Bayern secure the Bundesliga title.

Of course, there have also been many other notable Bayern players that have made moves to Serie A during their careers including Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Miroslav Klose, Lothar Matthäus, Arturo Vidal, Benjamin Pavard, Yann Sommer, Lucio, Luca Toni, Jürgen Klinsmann, and Mario Mandžukić, among others. While some of the aforementioned players have far better tenures in Italy than some of the others, Müller would have his own story to write should he choose to go to Italy, and more specifically, at the request of Gosens, Fiorentina.
