Premier League clubs struggling to strike Jonathan Tah deal

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has confirmed that a multitude of Premier League clubs have had contact with Tah’s camp.

However, none of the clubs in England have managed to progress in talks over Tah, and Bayern Munich now feel they are favourites to sign him.

Tah is up for a potential switch to the Premier League, but it seems like either Bayern or the two Spanish top-flight giants were always his preference.

“Bayern, as we know, are trying to sign Tah, and they think they are favourites,” Bailey exclusively told TBR Football.

“English clubs have held talks but none are progressing.

“Man City, Chelsea, Man United, Newcastle – all had contact, but it was pretty clear that a deal was unlikely.

“Barcelona were very keen on Tah, but we can confirm that Real Madrid have also spoken to Xabi Alonso about him.

“However, Bayern think they are getting him… but suddenly, he really does have his pick!”

What Simon Rolfes and Xabi Alonso have said about Jonathan Tah

Rolfes has recently confirmed on LinkedIn that Tah would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

“Leaving as an icon,” he wrote. “It’s not in our usual strategy to let players leave at the end of a contract and without a transfer fee.

“But for Jonathan Tah, we made an exception as he grew into a vital part of our team, so that we wanted to keep him here.

“As he prepares to leave Bayer 04 Leverkusen now, I find myself filled with gratitude for the time we’ve shared.”

Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso has sung Tah’s praises in the past.

“Overall, Jonathan is performing at the highest level,” Alonso – who is set to join Real Madrid this summer – said last year.

“And I am really happy for him because he deserves all the praise and all the good moments he’s living – that he keeps playing for us and happily for the national team as well.

“I think he is one of the world’s best defenders.”
