David Moyes thinks Everton are in for a busy summer as the club looks to strengthen the squad before moving to their new stadium.

The Toffees boss said he will be ‘well supported’ by American owners Friedkin Group, led by chairman Dan Friedkin, who also owns Italian club Roma.

Everton will say goodbye to Goodison Park on Sunday, the club’s home since 1892, as they move into a new state-of-the-art ground on Bramley-Moore Dock.

On talkSPORT Breakfast, host and former Rangers hero Ally McCoist asked if Everton will get a chance to strengthen before they move into their new £800million stadium.

“Will you be busy in the market, do you think?” said McCoist.

Moyes responded: “I think we will be.

“The new owners have come in and we’re trying to find our way with them. They’re American and we are just trying to catch up with things.”

He continued: “So there is a lot of things we are trying to put in place. I’ve got a good idea of what the club needs and what the people want. And moving to a new stadium and what it’s going to mean for them as well.

“I suspect us to be well supported in the transfer market.

“I don’t think it will be outrageous but I think we’ll be able to do a bit of business.”

In December 2024, Farhad Moshiri sold his 94.1 per cent stake in Everton to Californian businessman Dan Friedkin.

The takeover, which sources say was worth between £400m and £500m, converted debts into equity and saw Moshiri make a loss on his £700m investment.

While the deal was going through, Friedkin agreed to fund the final financing of the stadium move, in addition to the day-to-day running costs including wages.

Everton will celebrate the end of an era at Goodison Park with their last fixture against Southampton.

In a surprise announcement from the club the iconic stadium, which was set to be demolished and redeveloped, will become the new home of Everton Women.

Chatting about the move, Moyes said: “All the Evertonians have been waiting for this for a long, long time now.

“Even since I was there for the first time, they were talking about a new stadium move, we were gonna get a new ground. But it’s about to happen now.”

The Scottish manager, who did stints at Manchester United, West Ham and Sunderland, said he is thrilled by the Black Cat’s Tuesday night win.

A goal by Dan Ballard in the last minute of extra time saw Sunderland beat Coventry 3-2 on aggregate and secure a place in the Championship Play-Off Final.

Reflecting on his former club, Moyes said: “I’m thrilled for Sunderland because you’ll know as well as them, it’s a great football club.

“I got them really probably in a bad time in their history. And I’m so thrilled at them beginning to work their way back toward the top again.

“They’ve got great support, huge stadium. But they’ve got a big game on against Sheffield United, who will no doubt probably go into the final as favourites.”

“But it was a great result last night,” Moyes added.

The 2024/25 Championship Play-Off Final will take place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 24 and talkSPORT and talkSPORT.com will have live coverage of the final.
