Steven Wilson managed to evade justice until 2021 when the victim recognised him from an article about his other sexual offences and reported him to the police.

The former Premier League referee was found guilty of rape and sexual assault at Worcester Crown Court and the judge referred to him as “cunning and manipulative”.

Steven Wilson had a criminal record. In 2009, he confessed to downloading indecent images and communicating with underage children, and in 2011 he was jailed for 15 months for sex offences relating to teenagers.

His 2009 crime cost him his career as a referee.
