Igamane To Start? | Predicted 4-2-3-1 Rangers Lineup To Face Dundee United

Rangers are finally back to winning ways with a thumping 4-0 win against Aberdeen last weekend. While they have nothing to play for in the final two fixtures, interim boss Barry Ferguson has asked his side to replicate a similar show versus Dundee United on Wednesday night in their final Ibrox fixture of the season.

Meanwhile, the Tangerines would aim for all three points to keep their European hopes alive. A win could see them climb up to fourth and secure a Conference League qualification spot, provided Aberdeen suffer a defeat against the champions Celtic in their own backyard. Rangers dominated this fixture on the road but settled for a 1-1 draw when they hosted United in November. It won’t be a stroll in the park for them against a side with a purpose.

Defence

Liam Kelly made some crucial saves en route to earning a clean sheet against the Dons. He has replaced Jack Butland between the sticks and should keep his place this midweek.

The Gers are decimated down the wide areas with Ridvan Yilmaz and Dujon Sterling sidelined for months. But they have skipper James Tavernier and Jefte to feature as the fullbacks. Robin Propper and Clinton Nsiala have slipped further down the pecking order following Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s return from a long injury layoff. The versatile Feyenoord loanee might not grab a start, however, the gaffer should bring him in at some point to replace 36-year-old Leon Balogun.

The veteran Nigerian must continue as the first-choice centre-half for his passing, ball-playing ability and leadership traits alongside John Souttar in the heart of the backline.

Midfield

Connor Barron is eyeing a strong finish after losing his place midway through the campaign due to form and fitness reasons. The mastery of Nicolas Raskin has made it even easier for the Scotsman to settle in and deliver as a deep-lying playmaker. The duo should retain their starting status as the ‘double pivot’ in the centre of the pitch.

Vaclav Cerny is back among the goals as he broke the deadlock, and then laid on another for Jefte in the closing minutes of the Aberdeen clash. The right midfield role is tailor-made for the Czech ace, but the manager must hand a starting status to Hamza Igamane over Nedim Bajrami down the left. Mohamed Diomande should feature as a ‘number 10’ and pull the strings as a midfield attacker.

Attack

Regardless of his wastefulness and the lack of all-round ability, Cyriel Dessers has exhibited his exquisite scoring skill all season. The Gers would rely on him once more to snatch a result tonight. After his brief yet impactful cameo versus the Dons, Danilo could be introduced again as a second-half substitute.
