Liverpool drew with Arsenal at the weekend, but the game was largely overshadowed by one incident.
Indeed, Trent Alexander-Arnold was booed by his own fans at the weekend as he came off the bench for the Reds.
Alexander-Arnold is set to join Real Madrid this summer, and it’s fair to say that some Liverpool fans feel betrayed by the fact that Alexander-Arnold is on his way out.
Speaking on the Walk On Podcast, James Pearce has been discussing this incident, and he shared what he noticed from within the stadium.
According to the journalist, both Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai looked bemused as Alexander-Arnold was jeered by his own fans.
Alexander-Arnold is a world-class player, but his Liverpool legacy has now been tainted.
How Dominik Szoboszlai reacted to Trent Alexander-Arnold boos
Pearce shared what he noticed from the press box.
According to the journalist, both Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai were very confused by how Alexander-Arnold was being treated here.
“After the game, when Alexander-Arnold went around and applauded all four sides and there were more jeers, more catcalls, I looked at Gakpo and Szoboszlai, both of those players almost looked in, like, bemusement at what they were seeing. I think you only had to see the kind of, you know, the kind of reactions from the players on social media to Trent last week, to see the, you know, as Simon touched on before, you know, for them, it is so different, isn’t it? Because all of these players have left clubs to come to Liverpool,” Pearce said.
Ian Wright’s reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold boos
Alexander-Arnold being booed has been the big talking point in the Premier League this week.
Indeed, this was a seminal moment in the Premier League as Liverpool supporters have very much made it clear how they feel about Alexander-Arnold leaving the club.
There have been mixed reactions to this, Jamie Carragher believes some fans are well within their rights to make their voices heard, but, speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright had an alternative view to share.
“It’s very tough. I can’t understand, my Palace problem, going back to Palace I didn’t expect to get booed and it takes you to a place of disbelief. I thought they would boo him, but what surprised me, I’ve never heard that, I’ve never heard Liverpool boo a player, returning players, but not a player who was playing in their shirt. I had a feeling it would happen,” Wright said.
This was a bizarre incident, and Arne Slot has a big call to make as to whether or not he’s going to use Alexander-Arnold again before the end of this season.
