Chelsea need to be busy in the summer transfer window.
Indeed, before Christmas, Chelsea were seen as title contenders, but their form has tanked since the turn of the year.
Quite simply, Chelsea haven’t been good enough in 2025, and many believe their problems lie in defence.
Robert Sanchez has been heavily criticised, while Ian Wright thinks Chelsea need a new experienced centre-back.
Antonio Rudiger has been linked to Chelsea lately, and speaking on KS1 TV, Steve Kay has shared what he knows about the German and his links back to Stamford Bridge.
What Antonio Rudiger’s agent has said about Chelsea links
Kay noted that he’s heard directly from Antonio Rudiger’s agent about these links to Chelsea.
According to the journalist, there has indeed been an approach from Chelsea for the centre-back, claiming that this is certainly one to keep a close eye on.
“Yeah, there’s an approach. I’ve got a really good relationship with the agent of Rudiger and a few other players, De Jong and Gyokeres funnily enough. They’re all under the same agency, one of the best relationships I’ve got and they give me information,’ Kay said.
“There’s been an approach from Chelsea and they’re monitoring his decision. You’re hearing that Real Madrid have had a nibble at Saliba, they’re looking at Dean Huijsen, so it’s really interesting to hear Chelsea have been knocking around. It’s one to keep an eye on, it’s one I could see happening at some point.”
Players who’ve re-signed for Chelsea
Rudiger could be set to return to Chelsea, and the Blues do have a knack of doing these sorts of deals for their former players.
Indeed, Chelsea haven’t been afraid of re-signing big-name players in the past.
Players to have re-signed for Chelsea | Year left | Year re-signed |
---|---|---|
Romelu Lukaku | 2014 | 2021 |
Didier Drogba | 2012 | 2014 |
Nemanja Matic | 2011 | 2014 |
David Luiz | 2014 | 2016 |
Graeme Le Saux | 1993 | 1997 |
A number of players have re-signed for Chelsea and have had successful second spells.
Nemanja Matic, Didier Drogba and David Luiz all won the Premier League during their second spells at Chelsea.
Romelu Lukaku didn’t have the best second spell at Chelsea though, and that’s something that may still haunt the Blues.
Let’s hope Rudiger is more of a Matic than a Lukaku if he does decide to make the move back to Stamford Bridge.
