Arne Slot worked wonders at Feyenoord before his move to Liverpool, striking up a real connection with several of his players in the Netherlands – so much so that he wanted to take some to Merseyside.
De Telegraaf wrote that the Reds tried to sign Mats Wieffer after he helped the Dutchman win the Eredivisie title in the 2023/24 campaign, while Liverpool have also been linked with David Hancko – another star of that successful side.
Neither of these moves actually materialised last summer, nor in the winter transfer window – in fact, Liverpool have only made one signing since Jurgen Klopp left in the form of Federico Chiesa.
Now – however – Liverpool are keen on another player who helped Feyenoord win the Eredivisie as Lutsharel Geertruida emerges on the scene, a man who adores Arne Slot.
The situation involving Liverpool and Lutsharel Geertruida
Liverpool are in talks to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen – although the Daily Mail are now reporting that Geertruida could move to Anfield instead of the Dutchman, as he is unhappy at RB Leipzig.
If that move does happen, the presence of Slot would surely play a huge part.
What Lutsharel Geertruida has previously said about Arne Slot
Geertruida – who joined RB Leipzig for £17m last summer, rejecting Aston Villa in the process – spoke fondly of the Liverpool boss ahead of their reunion in the UEFA Champions League last October, a match which ended 1-0 to the Reds after a goal from Darwin Nunez.

The official RB Leipzig website quoted the Netherlands international as saying: “Arne managed to get the best out of me. He was never afraid to give me some harsh truths and was always correct in what he said about me. I believe he was a game changer for Feyenoord as soon as he arrived in Rotterdam.
“We always looked to play a dominant style of football, no matter the opponent. That led to us winning both the league title and the cup, as well as also getting us to a Conference League final. That shows he did a really great job.
“He is an intelligent coach who knows how he wants to go about things. Off the field he is also very open and is always prepared to listen to what you have to say and is easy to have a conversation with.”
Geertruida registered 127 appearances under Slot – far more than he has made under any other manager in his career – scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists from defence.
