Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola reportedly ‘dreams’ of bringing Barcelona‘s Dani OImo to the Etihad Stadium.
The 27-year-old made the move to Barcelona from RB Leipzig during last summer’s transfer window, and he has represented the Catalan giants on 36 occasions this season, scoring 11 goals and registering six assists in the process.
Hansi Flick‘s side paid in the region of €60m (£51m) for the Spain international, who penned a six-year contract at Camp Nou, with his release clause set at €500m (£429m).
Olmo has had injury problems this season, while Barcelona have also had issues registering him due to their financial issues, and he was linked with a shock move away from the club on a free transfer earlier this year.
When fit, Olmo has proven to be first choice in the number 10 position, and he has already won two trophies during his first season at the club, lifting the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey in 2025.
Man City ‘eyeing move for Barca star Olmo’
According to Relevo, Man City boss Guardiola is keeping a close eye on Olmo’s situation at Barcelona, with the Spaniard ‘dreaming’ of bringing the attacker to the Etihad Stadium.
The Premier League outfit are looking to bring in a number 10 due to the imminent departure of Kevin De Bruyne, and Bayer Leverkusen‘s Florian Wirtz is also thought to be high on their wishlist.
However, Wirtz is also wanted by Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, and should a deal for the Germany international become impossible, the Citizens could allegedly step up their interest in Olmo.
Olmo is a hugely important player for Spain., scoring 11 goals and registering 10 assists in 43 appearances, including three goals and two assists at Euro 2024, as La Roja won the competition in impressive fashion.
Would Barcelona be open to a sale?
It would take a lot of money to convince Barcelona to let Olmo leave this summer, but it is not impossible.
Barcelona have other players capable of operating as a number 10 in their 4-2-3-1 system, including Pedri, Fermin Lopez and Gavi, so it is not too difficult to envisage a scenario which leads to him leaving at the end of the campaign.
Olmo has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United and Arsenal also believed to be admirers, and a switch to England’s top flight in the not too distant future is certainly a possibility.
