Arsenal are thought to be closing in on the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP this summer.
Gyokeres has an incredible scoring record in Portugal — he’s netted 95 goals in 100 games, and it’s easy to see why Arsenal are interested.
Before Andrea Berta’s arrival as the club’s new sporting director it was believed that Gyokeres was just one of several names on Arsenal’s striker shortlist.
However, the former Atletico Madrid decision-maker seems to have championed Gyokeres’ case ever since he arrived in north London.
Berta loves Gyokeres’ skill-set, and whilst some believe that Mikel Arteta would prefer to sign Benjamin Sesko, it seems as if the Swedish striker is most likely to join right now.
Mikel Arteta should be pushing to sign Victor Osimhen
First things first, Gyokeres is an excellent striker — he’s definitely good enough to play for a top Premier League side.
However, having waited so long to recruit a new striker, Arsenal should actually be aiming higher.
In fact, they should be making a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who’s currently in the midst of completing his season-long loan at Galatasaray.

Arsenal would love to sign Alexander Isak but it seems almost certain that the Newcastle United striker is going nowhere this summer.
And with Isak potentially off the table, Osimhen could be the only world-class option available to Arsenal this summer.
At 26-years-old, Osimhen’s career has obviously taken an unexpected step — it seemed unthinkable that Napoli would be willing to loan him to Galatasaray a few years ago.
But the Nigerian doesn’t seem to fit Antonio Conte’s plans, and Osimhen is free to leave Napoli this summer — and he should be Arsenal’s focus.
Viktor Gyokeres is not the right fit for Arsenal
From the outside looking in, it’s hard to decipher why Arsenal aren’t more interested in Osimhen right now.
He’s better fit than Gyokeres in terms of how he dominates the box, and perhaps Berta’s team are just put off by the striker’s large wage demands.
However, Arsenal are seemingly trying to prove to the likes of William Saliba that they can stay at the club and win trophies long-term.
Real Madrid want Saliba but the defender is seemingly willing to stay at Arsenal, providing that they match his ambitions.
And with the greatest respect to Gyokeres, who might still be a good signing for the Gunners, Osimhen is a much better addition and fit on paper.
Just a year or so ago, Osimhen was considered to be one of the world’s elite strikers, and via a surprise turn of events, the Nigerian is now available for £60m this summer.
