The summer transfer window is almost upon us, and the big theme heading into this window is the race to sign a new striker.
Arsenal are set to sign a new striker this summer, Chelsea need a new number nine and with Darwin Nunez set to leave Liverpool, the Reds could also be in for a new striker.
Liverpool are keen on Alexander Isak, while Hugo Ekitike has been linked to Liverpool too.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Back Pages Podcast, David Ornstein has been discussing Ekitike’s potential move this summer, and he says the French striker is going to be very expensive in this transfer window.
Hugo Ekitike will be very expensive
Ornstein shared what he knows about the strikers who could be available this summer.
The journalist namechecked Liam Delap among the forwards who could be on the move, while he said that Ekitike would be really expensive.
Ekitike is an ‘unbelievable’ striker, so he could be worth the money.
“And we’re talking about the likes of Liam Delap. So he is wanted by Manchester United, by Chelsea and various others. Hugo Ekitike, that will be a really expensive deal, of course, from Frankfurt and a young player with such talent.
“And beyond that is pretty slim pickings. So I’m not sure that the clubs that need that position are necessarily going to fill it with the players that they want. And therefore they might have to start to look towards maybe a winger or nine and a half, as they’re starting to call it.”
Strikers sold by Eintracht Frankfurt
Ekitike could be on the move this summer, and he would be very expensive if he were to make a transfer.
Eintracht Frankfurt are no mugs in the transfer market, that’s for sure, and they consistently find themselves in this situation where they have a big-money, in demand striker.
Strikers sold by Eintracht Frankfurt | Club joined | Fee |
Randall Kolo Muani | PSG | £77m |
Omar Marmoush | Man City | £59m |
Luka Jovic | Real Madrid | £50m |
Sebastien Haller | West Ham | £45m |
The list of strikers that Frankfurt have sold in recent years makes for interesting reading.
Omar Marmoush has been brilliant for Man City so far, but, other than that, these players haven’t had the best of times.
Luka Jovic didn’t make it at Real Madrid, Sebastien Haller was a flop at West Ham, while Randall Kolo Muani has already been moved on by PSG as he joined Juventus on loan in January.
Ekitike looks like a talent, but signing players from Frankfurt has proven to be a risky strategy in recent years.
