Federico Chiesa has had it tough since his transfer to Liverpool at the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
When his move was first announced, fans were excited by the prospect of Chiesa joining, especially since he only cost the Reds around £12.5 million.
Chiesa, though, has been out of favour since his Anfield switch, with the attacker only just managing to earn himself a Premier League winners’ medal after his recent appearance versus Chelsea.
With that being said, it isn’t much of a surprise to see the Italian linked with a move away in the upcoming summer window.
Napoli make loan bid for Liverpool ace Federico Chiesa
As per a report from Italian outlet La Gazzetta, Napoli have made the Reds a loan offer which includes an option to buy the Italy international at the end of next season.
The report shares that Liverpool are “insisting” that an obligation to buy is worked into the deal in order to sanction his exit.
La Gazzetta also add that Napoli are now “pushing on the accelerator” to ensure that the deal gets over the line.
Antonio Conte’s men have long been linked with the 27-year-old, who, when called upon by Slot, has shown that there’s still a more than capable player within him.
Liverpool should try and keep hold of Chiesa in the summer
Granted, the Italy international may not have played all that many games this term, but when his services were required, he often delivered.
Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 5 | 0 | 0 |
Carabao Cup | 3 | 1 | 1 |
Champions League | 3 | 0 | 1 |
FA Cup | 2 | 1 | 0 |
This season, despite only starting three games, Chiesa has contributed to four goals across all competitions and has performed better for Liverpool than Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota on occasion.
While things haven’t quite worked out this term for the Italian, if Slot chooses to stick by the winger and include him in his first-team plans next term, he could become a more than valuable asset to the squad.
Only time will tell what the future holds, of course, but Liverpool allowing Chiesa to exit after just a single season in the Premier League doesn’t seem to make much sense.
Especially since the Reds only spent a minimal amount of money when bringing him to the club in the first place.
