Report: Liverpool have now opened talks to sign ‘exceptionally talented’ £126m midfielder

2 Min Read

Liverpool have opened talks to sign one of Europe’s best players, however, the Reds are set to face strong competition for the midfielder.

Liverpool will be looking to defend their Premier League title next season, along with going further in the Champions League, and will need to reinforce Arne Slot’s squad to do so.

The Reds have been looking at attacking options and one of the players Liverpool have started talks with is Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid.

But on Tuesday, the Merseyside club met with the representatives of another attacker who is, without doubt, one of the hottest young talents on the continent.

Liverpool meet with the representatives of Florian Wirtz

Liverpool have met with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz to discuss a potential summer transfer, according to Kicker.

TBR Football revealed that Manchester City also met with Wirtz on Tuesday, but now, the newly crowned Premier League champions have joined them in talks.

Wirtz and his parent, who are also his advisors, flew to England on Tuesday and held concrete talks with both Premier League giants about his next move.

The Reds now joining the race to sign Wirtz increases the likelihood that Leverkusen will get the £125 million transfer fee, which they were hoping for in order to sell the 22-year-old.

Jeremie Frimpong looks set to become Liverpool’s first summer signing and now they could sign his Leverkusen teammate Wirtz in what could be one of the deals of the summer.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also want Florian Wirtz

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also in the race to sign Wirtz, with the latter having been confident of landing him up until now.

The German international’s former Leverkusen boss, Xabi Alonso, heading to Madrid means that Madrid could enter the race with full force in the coming weeks.
