Bayern Munich are now outnumbered, but can they still land the German superstar?

Among the names interested in Florian Wirtz have historically been three main players. Those clubs being Bayern Munich, Manchester City, and Real Madrid. However, a new challenger has emerged. English giants Liverpool FC have now met with Wirtz and his parents to discuss a possible transfer. All of a sudden, Bayern Munich might start sweating.

It has been heavily reported that Florian Wirtz has promised he would make the move to Bayern Munich and that it is more of a matter of “if” than “when.” However, that promise seems to hold little strength when Wirtz recently flew to England to meet with both Manchester City and Liverpool executives:

Liverpool and their coach Arne Slot are very interested in signing Florian Wirtz. The player and his parents met with LFC officials yesterday during a stopover in the seaside resort of Blackpool, before then flying about 20 minutes further to Manchester.

Bayern are following the recent developments closely but remain ‘absolutely certain’ that Wirtz will end up in Munich because he clearly signalled that to them.

There is no doubt that Manchester City and Liverpool have the funds, and are willing to pay handsomely for top talent. Can Liverpool and Manchester City offer Wirtz something more intriguing than what Bayern Munich can offer in Germany? If so, it spells trouble for the Bavarians.

However, there is a conflicting report from Sky Sports in England. Journalist Kaveh Solhekol is denying that Wirtz met with Liverpool:

Liverpool are not working on a deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen at the moment. They did not meet the player in England yesterday. He is a player they have been aware of for some time and in the event of there being any prospect of him wanting to move to England they would be interested. As things stand the indications appear to be that he wants to remain in Germany – whether by staying at Bayer Leverkusen or moving to Bayern Munich. Liverpool will continue to monitor the situation.

At the end of the day, Wirtz is allowed to make whatever choice he seems best, but Wirtz recently said money doesn’t matter to him, and it is known that his dad would prefer him to stay in Germany. Perhaps it is not yet time to panic for Bayern, and trust that the deal will get done. If it doesn’t, this could be the best player that Bayern has ever let slip out of their hands.
