Transfer deadline day cut-off brought forward

1 Min Read

The transfer deadline day cut-off point is to be brought forward to try and alleviate the pressure on some of those involved.

Previously teams had until 11 pm to conclu

de deals on deadline day itself, but that has now been brought forward four hours.

In recent years, it has been common practice for some deals to come down to the wire, and it is not unknown for the finer details to be hammered out by the clubs involved after the deadline has passed.

Critics of the move fear that the move could put the Premier League at a disadvantage, because they can still make moves when the window in England has closed, although other European leagues are considering following suit.

The new rules will come into effect for both windows this summer, with the extra one introduced to allow for the Club World Cup. The first runs from June 1st to June 10th. There will then be a brief pause before it opens again on June 16th, before closing for good on September 1st.
