Viktor Gyokeres will be hoping that if he says yes to a move to Arsenal, Andrea Berta has other big-hitters lined up as well.
Berta has been ambitious at Arsenal from day one as he seems to constantly be scouring the market to sign players who can take Mikel Arteta’s side to the next level.
The Italian’s proactiveness is summed up by the fact that Arsenal have bid for Gyokeres already as they aim to take an early lead in the race to sign the Sporting CP striker.
However, Viktor Gyokeres might not be too happy after coming across one of the names linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Viktor Gyokeres could be upset about Arsenal sealing Martin Zubimendi agreement
The name in question is Martin Zubimendi, as Gyokeres would have been hoping that this summer, Arsenal sign a creative midfielder.
But Zubimendi has agreed a deal with Arsenal as Andrea Berta has played a key role in helping them close in on their first summer signing for £50 million.
For Gyokeres, the Real Sociedad orchestrator’s impending arrival is a cause for concern as it would mean that Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard will be tasked to create chances for him from midfield.
However, Rice and Odegaard have just seven assists each in the Premier League this season, with the latter being a box-to-box midfielder and the latter being more adept at controlling the tempo of games.
ARSENAL’S CREATIVITY | PREMIER LEAGUE ASSISTS THIS SEASON |
BUKAYO SAKA | 10 |
GABRIEL MARTINELLI | 4 |
DECLAN RICE | 7 |
MARTIN ODEGAARD | 7 |
LEANDRO TROSSARD | 6 |
Barring Bukayo Saka, no player at London Colney has registered even 10 assists in the league this season — which should be a cause for concern for the Swedish international.
While Zubimendi is a quality player and his terrific passing range could mean Arsenal’s attackers receive the ball at will, Gyokeres’ concern should be that Arsenal seem to be being overly pragmatic by signing him.
This season, Mikel Arteta’s side have often lacked a creative spark anyway and it especially hurt them in the Champions League as they scored one goal in two legs against Paris Saint-Germain.
Andrea Berta is trying to complete Gyokeres’ signing and while Arsenal’s project should excite the player, he has every right to have second thoughts about the rationale behind potential signings like Zubimendi.
Viktor Gyokeres should tell Andrea Berta to sign £50m star
However, the summer window is yet to begin and it would also not be logical for the 26-year-old to be too downbeat about a move to the Gunners.
Andrea Berta is an experienced head and based on his track record, he deserves to be trusted to make the right moves.
However, from Gyokeres’ point of view, he should recommend Berta and Arsenal to sign Xavi Simons to add to an impressive midfield cohort that is also set to include Zubimendi.
Simons suggested he wants to leave RB Leipzig in the summer.
XAVI SIMONS STATS | |
SEASON | ASSISTS |
2022/2023 | 11 |
2023/2024 | 15 |
2024/2025 | 8 |
In the past three seasons, Xavi Simons, who could be available for £50 million has registered an impressive 34 assists in all competitions and could be the ideal partner-in-crime alongside Gyokeres.
Considering the La Masia graduate is only 22 and would only improve by playing for a superior Arsenal side, Andrea Berta should seriously consider the possibility of signing him.
