Arsenal are believed to have made a call last night to find out about the situation of one of Europe’s most highly rated defenders.
Andrea Berta has been working hard to sign an attacker this month having already agreed a deal for Arsenal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
But the Gunners are still working on their defensive options and have just made contact with another Premier League club to learn the possibility of a deal.
Arsenal make contact with Bournemouth for Dean Huijsen
Last night, Arsenal made contact with AFC Bournemouth to discover whether a deal for Dean Huijsen was still a possibility, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Huijsen is close to joining Real Madrid with an agreement in place between the Spanish giants and the South Coast club over paying the player’s £50 million release clause.
The 20-year-old’s camp is now set to hold talks with Los Blancos about a move, but in case that deal falls through, Arsenal and Chelsea are waiting in the wings.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have made the decision to withdraw from the race to sign the Spanish international as they believe his priority is to join Madrid.
Romano said on YouTube: “Even including tonight, clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal are always called to be informed about the situation of Dean Huijsen.
“Chelsea and Arsenal have been in regular contact over the past 24 hours to understand what happens, if they can still enter the race in case the deal collapses.
“Liverpool left the conversation more than 24 hours ago because they understood the player was giving total priority to Real Madrid.”
Can Arsenal afford to be paying £50 million on another defender?
Arsenal dropping £50 million on another defender does not feel like the best option for the Gunners when their weaknesses are so clear.
Mikel Arteta’s squad is already well stocked with defenders, therefore, spending such a large sum on another would be a waste’.
They still need to bring in a striker, winger and even another creative midfielder with question marks over the effectiveness of Martin Odegaard.
