It’s a long week for Liverpool fans with no game until Monday – even if the head coach and players are enjoying themselves partying abroad and celebrating the Premier League title win.
With the absence of matches, transfer fever has once again gripped the soccer world. The window opens in less than two weeks, and several clubs are making moves.
There were two big stories that broke on Wednesday, concerning Liverpool…
Florian Wirtz
On Wednesday evening (UK time), reports from Germany emerged claiming that Liverpool had met with Florian Wirtz and his representatives the day prior. Three separate claims from the German media stated Liverpool is now very much in the hunt for the 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star.
However, Liverpool.com understands that no meeting took place. The Reds are interested in Wirtz, but with the expectation that he will remain in Germany this summer, either a move to Bayern Munich or staying at Leverkusen feels most likely for Wirtz.
Manchester City has been credited with interest in the player, although sources have indicated to Liverpool.com that the Blues also did not meet Wirtz when he was in England.
Real Madrid is reportedly another club keen on the player, who could join Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xabi Alonso in the Spanish capital.
Dean Huijsen
Speaking of Real, after months of reports linking Dean Huijsen with a move to a Premier League side, the Bournemouth defender now looks destined to join the current European champions.
Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam posted on X, stating: “Real Madrid have today made contact with AFC Bournemouth regarding defender Dean Huijsen.
“Dialogue will continue between the two parties but the fact that Madrid have made contact would suggest Dean Huijsen has made up his mind about his move this summer.”

A flurry of Fabrizio Romano posts followed, with the social media figure claiming Real had sent a contract proposal to Huijsen, whose “priority” was to secure a move to Bernabeu.
He then added: “Bournemouth have approved Real Madrid conditions for Dean Huijsen deal with £50m release clause to be paid by the end of 2026. Deal done club to club.
“Final green light needed to proceed and seal the deal with player’s camp as Huijsen always gave priority to Madrid.”
Liverpool was among the plethora of Premier League sides linked with Huijsen, and his defection to Spain will be seen as a bitter blow. The Reds reportedly want to strengthen at center-back, given Ibrahima Konate’s uncertain future, while Jarell Quansah does not appear to be in Slot’s immediate plans.
