The derby between Espanyol and Barcelona began with a sad and unfortunate incident, as before the match there was a mass run-over in the vicinity of the RCDE Stadium. There are injured people.
The Mossos d’Esquadra are currently working on the hypothesis that the driver lost control and it was accidental. But there is still nothing 100% certain.
The incident took place just outside the RCDE Stadium shortly before the match between Manolo Gonzalez’s side and Hansi Flick’s side kicked off. A white car ploughed into a crowd of people and some were trapped.

The incident took place just outside the RCDE Stadium shortly before the match between Manolo González’s side and Hansi Flick’s team was set to begin. A white car plowed into a crowd of people, and some were briefly trapped. Fortunately, according to an announcement made over the stadium’s PA system by Espanyol, the situation is under control and there are no serious injuries-only minor ones.
Seven ambulances at the scene.
At this moment, there are still seven ambulances on site attending to the injured. None of them are in serious condition, Espanyol insists. However, there were intense moments of panic and terror, as well as uncertainty and fear.
Fortunately, it appears that none of the injuries are severe.
Empty stands.
Some Espanyol fans, specifically those seated behind Joan García’s goal, left the stands as they believed the match should not continue after the mass hit-and-run incident. They called on others to join them, but the game went on and most of the stadium remains full. In fact, many spectators are still unaware of the tragic accident.
