Rodrygo offers fresh transfer update as Real Madrid stance clarified amid Liverpool links

4 Min Read

Liverpool has supposedly been alerted to the situation surrounding Brazilian winger Rodrygo at Real Madrid, with the Spanish media reporting that the winger’s discontent at the Bernabeu has grown during the 2024/25 season.

Despite racking up 50 appearances and being a regular starter, with 38 starts across all competitions, Rodrygo’s role has noticeably altered following the arrivals of high-profile players such as Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe, resulting in strategic adjustments by boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti found himself clarifying the reasons behind Rodrygo missing out on two vital matches including El Clasico recently, citing illness and injury. Yet, gossip had already started spreading, hinting that Rodrygo had resolved to never don the Real Madrid kit again.

Shortly after, The Guardian reported Liverpool was closely monitoring the situation, alongside Premier League competitors Arsenal and Manchester City. The trio were supposedly prepared to pounce should the tension rise further when summer arrives.

Additionally, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano shed light on the subject in his recent update for GiveMeSport. “The Rodrygo situation is not decided at this stage,” he noted. “So, despite links, there are still steps and decisions to make.”

Evidently, the player himself has now chosen to quash any speculation regarding his stance towards Real Madrid.

Rodrygo sent a reassuring message to his followers amidst rumors, declaring on his Instagram story: “Thanks for all the messages and concern. I’ll be back soon [praying emoji],” above a photo taken from a recovery chamber.

He followed up with a pointed remark: “Stop making stuff up.” That post also contained a couple of face-palm emojis.

Reflecting on what might have been, Rodrygo disclosed that he had the opportunity to join Liverpool before heading to Spain in 2018.

“We didn’t close the deal because I didn’t want to,” he said, via Goal, last year. “I wanted to stay at Santos even though the offer was very good.”

The young Brazilian star outlined the future that once beckoned: “The pathway they promised me would also have been very good for my career. I was going to finish my studies in England to prepare for European football.”

Rodrygo shared his ambition: “It had always been my dream to play in Europe. Everything was very good, but my desire spoke louder. I wanted to stay at Santos and make a bit of history at the club.”

He expressed satisfaction in the choices he made: “And that’s what happened. I was able to fulfil my dream of playing for Santos. But it’s true, I almost went to Liverpool.”

Liverpool.com says: If Rodrygo is available, it would be silly not to consider a move. He is a very high-quality player and he would come with loads of experience. He wouldn’t be cheap, certainly, but he is a world-class talent.
