Could Jonathan Tah shift his focus to FC Barcelona or Real Madrid..
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (as captured by Football Espana), Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is getting interest from both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid as he — allegedly — is nearing a deal with Bayern Munich:
Barcelona are hoping to make at least a couple of signings this summer, and the first of those to arrive could be Jonathan Tah. The soon-to-be free agent defender has still to decide his future, but at this stage, it appears that his desire is to be reunited with Hansi Flick in the capital of Catalonia.
Hmmm…that seems to run contrary to the recent reports we have seen emanating from Germany (like here, here, and here), but let’s continue:
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Tah is still prioritising a move to Barcelona. At this stage, he has yet to make a decision on his future as he is awaiting a definitive decision from the newly-crowned La Liga champions.
Flick is the reason that Tah is waiting for Barcelona. The pair worked together when the 60-year-old was head coach of the German national team, and he is also personally pushing for the Catalans to move for the Bayer Leverkusen defender. For these reasons, Tah is willing to wait a little longer before confirming his future plans.
Interestingly, FC Barcelona is not the only club from LaLiga eyeing Tah. Real Madrid is also in the mix:
Real Madrid are also said to have an interest in Tah, whose current manager Xabi Alonso will be taking the reins at the Santiago Bernabeu from this summer onwards. A move to the Spanish capital is a possibility for the Germany international, but for now, it is more likely that he goes to Barcelona or Bayern Munich.
There are some complexities for Tah, though, when it comes to FC Barcelona per Mundo Deportivo’s Roger Torelló (via @iMiaSanMia):
While Jonathan Tah’s move to FC Bayern is considered a matter of time in Germany, sources close to the player have insisted that he hasn’t made a decision yet. Tah, who had a verbal agreement with Barcelona but couldn’t finalize the move due to Barça’s FFP issues, is willing to wait a bit longer for them.
Hansi Flick is the main supporter of the move, but Tah is also aware that the coach cannot guarantee his registration, as it is beyond his scope of responsibilities. Even so, Tah is willing to wait a little longer and is keeping Bayern on hold. Barça consider the signing to be complicated, but Hansi Flick is insisting.
Bayern Munich still feels like the leader to land Tah, but FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are just the kind of clubs who could at least cause a player to have a wandering eye.
