Could the Bavarians sack their top sporting executive this summer?
Is it sink or swim time for Bayern Munich sporting boss Max Eberl?
The top sporting executive for the German record champions has faced a steady stream of media reports that he is under fire internally — despite his first-year head coach Vincent Kompany recapturing the Bundesliga title this season and despite (or because of) a number of big contract extensions to key players, such as Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich, some of whom would have otherwise been set to hit free agency.
Nevertheless, according to reporting in Az, the boss’s bosses are not satisfied.
As captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Max Eberl’s future at FC Bayern will depend on how the coming weeks unfold. At Monday’s supervisory board meeting, Eberl was told very clearly what the club’s higher-ups expect from him: player sales and a reduction of the wage bill, so that top transfers like that of Florian Wirtz can be realized. So far, in the opinion of the upper management, Eberl has failed to fulfill this task. Therefore, the supervisory board again emphasized this point emphatically. This mirrors recent reporting in Sport Bild (also via @iMiaSanMia) from the end of last month:
Max Eberl is facing two big points of criticism internally: 1- overpaying in contract extensions – 2- failing to generate funds through player sales
The sales this summer will be decisive for him

Is Eberl being set up with an impossible task? Or will the narrative become the next sporting bosses having to come in and clean his mess?
