Everton vs Southampton: Everton welcome Southampton to Goodison Park in their final home game of the season in the Premier League. David Moyes’ return to the dugout has brought stability to the team, that have moved out of relegation danger and into mid-table. Now, with peace of mind assured, the squad will be looking to close out their time at home with another win.

The previous weekend’s visit to London saw the Merseyside side start the weekend with a Raul Jimenez goal against Fulham. However, they soon hit back. Vitaly Mykolenko equalised, Michael Keane put his side ahead, and Beto made it 3-1.

Everton will be without the injured James Tarkowski, Orel Mangala and Jesper Lindstrom for the game. Southampton, meanwhile, are under pressure, have been relegated already. The atmosphere at Goodison promises tension, but also determination for the home side to finish strongly.

4-2-3-1 Everton Predicted Starting Lineup Against Southampton:

Defense:

Everton’s defence will feature O’Brien and Mykolenko at full-back, two players with different but functional profiles. Keane and Branthwaite will occupy the centre, with the former bringing experience and the latter aggression. The two have a good understanding, although they don’t always look tidy.

Pickford will be in goal, as always, with his strong character and quick reflexes. Mykolenko is coming off the back of a goal and that can give him confidence in his defensive work. The centre-backs will have to be on their toes against a team that often presses with intensity. The backline is not impressive, but have shown solidity in certain moments.

Midfield:

In the middle, Gueye and Garner will form the double pivot. Gueye takes on the dirty work, being more defensive. Garner, more technical, gets the freedom to move the ball with safe passes. The combination works because they share the roles without interfering with each other.  Up front, Doucouré will lead the second line as the attacking midfielder. His physical deployment allows him to cover space and get into the box. He has a good nose for space in the opposition half. Doucouré’s presence also helps in defence.

Attack:

In attack, Harrison and Alcaraz will play on the wings. Meanwhile, Beto will be centre forward and he will be the perfect target man for their attack. His physicality allows him to fight with the centre-backs and open up space. Although Beto doesn’t always play at the top of his game, he generates danger. Harrison, from the right flank, will look to run down the flanks and put up crosses inside the box. He is one of the most aggressive players in the team. On the other side, Alcaraz will move inside to leave space for Mykolenko, and that move could open up options. Beto will need more than one clear service if Everton are to score early. The trident does not always link up well on the field, but they look to complement each other better than it looks.
