Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s impending move to Real Madrid has forced the club to enter the market for a new right-back and Liverpool seem to be wasting no time in getting the replacement sorted.
They have been strongly linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and as per reports, they are moving quickly to secure his signing.
The most recent update from Fabrizio Romano is that Liverpool’s deal for Frimpong is close to completion, while TBR Football has previously reported that a deal will be completed by end of this week.
However, Darren Bent believes the club should be targeting someone else.
Darren Bent tells Liverpool to sign Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries
Denzel Dumfries was the star player for Inter Milan in their stunning win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.
He has been previously linked with a move to the Premier League, with Aston Villa showing strong interest in signing Dumfries last summer. But a deal did not materialise.
And now, Bent has urged Liverpool to sign Dumfries to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold. Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent said: “You know who I would like (Liverpool) to get at right back and I don’t think they’d be able to get him but I have liked him for a long time and I think he’s incredible. Dumfries! But it’s going to cost you.”
Jeremie Frimpong vs Denzel Dumfries in numbers
Frimpong played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten Bundesliga title campaign last season, registering nine goals and nine assists in 31 league appearances.
The Dutchman has continued his impressive form, contributing five goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
In comparison, Denzel Dumfries has scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 42 games this season.
Stats | Jeremie Frimpong | Denzel Dumfries |
Games | 48 | 42 |
Goals | 5 | 10 |
Assists | 12 | 5 |
Tackle Win % | 75.8% | 72% |
Recoveries | 84 | 61 |
Possession Wins (Final Third) | 21 | 11 |
Defensively, Frimpong also edges his compatriot — winning 75.8% of his tackles compared to Dumfries’ 72%. He has also made more ball recoveries and is notably more effective at regaining possession in the final third.
Given Frimpong’s all-round qualities and the fact that he’s still only 24, Liverpool may be making a very smart investment by targeting the Leverkusen star.
