Florian Wirtz has been linked to Liverpool recently, but it’s his Bayer Leverkusen teammate, Jeremie Frimpong, who could be the first through the door at Anfield.

Indeed, Frimpong is close to joining Liverpool according to some, and speaking on the Walk On Podcast, James Pearce has now shared his understanding of this situation.

According to the journalist, it’s highly likely that Jeremie Frimpong will be headed to Anfield this summer, claiming that he’s heard there’s great confidence from the player’s camp that a deal will be done.

Pearce says that Frimpong very much wants this move, and it is likely to be done.

Jeremie Frimpong confident he’ll get his move to Liverpool

Pearce gave an update on the defender and his potential switch to Anfield.

According to the journalist, the player’s camp are now really confident a move will happen.

“Yeah, that’s my understanding that it’s highly likely that he will be Anfield-bound. Certainly, there’s great confidence from the players’ camp that the move will happen. He wants it to,” Pearce said.

“He actually came close to joining Liverpool as a kid when he ended up going to Man City’s academy. I think it was easier for the family in terms of getting him to and from City’s academy than trying to get across to Merseyside that kind of led to that. I just think it makes a lot of sense when you look at the fee involved, low-release clause, 35 million euros.

“Of course, he’s got close links already with a number of the players. He’s good pals with Ryan Gravenberch, also knows, of course, Virgil van Dijk.”

Liverpool’s first signings of the summer

Frimpong could be Liverpool’s first signing of the summer transfer window, and the Reds have a habit of getting some exciting early business done over the years.

Indeed, Liverpool are known as rapid operators in the summer transfer window, and some of their early signings in recent years have been brilliant additions.

Year Liverpool’s first signing of the summer
2024 Federico Chiesa
2023 Alexis Mac Allister
2022 Darwin Nunez
2021 Ibrahima Konate
2020 Kostas Tsimikas
2019 Adrian
2018 Fabinho
2017 Mo Salah
2016 Loris Karius
2015 Nathaniel Clyne

Paul Merson reckons Frimpong could be a great signing, and there’s every reason to be excited about this one.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool is bound to sting, but Frimpong’s arrival will soothe that pain for sure.

The Reds aren’t messing about this summer as they bid to retain their Premier League crown next season.
