Manchester United’s form under Ruben Amorim has fallen well short of expectations.

The Red Devils sit 16th in the table, having lost an incredible 17 games in the Premier League so far, and are out of all domestic cup competitions as well.

Despite arriving with a strong reputation from Sporting CP, Amorim has struggled to implement consistency at Old Trafford, and there are suggestions that the Europa League could be a make-or-break moment for him.

And former Everton manager Sean Dyche believes he’d do better than Amorim at United.

However, not everyone believes the failure to win the Europa League would spell the end for the Portuguese coach.

After suggesting that Ange Postecoglou could be sacked regardless of whether Tottenham win the Europa League, Tom Huddlestone was asked if the same might apply to Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “Possibly, but I think they’re more likely to keep him, even if they lose.

“When you listen to him he speaks really well, he’s honest and up front to a fault. The culture around the place is what he’s trying to improve and he feels that will filter onto the pitch. Yeah, I think the Man United situation is slightly different and I imagine he will be there at the start of next year.”

INEOS set to back Ruben Amorim this summer

Despite United’s dismal form, the club’s new owners, INEOS, remain confident in Amorim and are reportedly prepared to back him heavily, with United aiming to make five new signings this summer.

The club has been linked with several high-profile players, including a surprise name in Chelsea star Cole Palmer. It has been reported that Palmer is open to a move to Man United.

In terms of outgoings, a major squad overhaul is expected, with several players set to leave — led by Marcus Rashford, who is attracting interest from Barcelona.

Others likely to be moved on include Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho, Christian Eriksen, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Jonny Evans, Tom Heaton, and Victor Lindelof.

The club is also expected to change their goalkeeper, with Amorim keen on selling Andre Onana.

With Amorim’s job safe for now, the next season is expected to be a big one for him. If Sir Jim Ratcliffe backs him properly in the summer transfer window, he will have little excuse going into next season.
