Manchester United believe they are ‘days’ away from agreeing deal to sign £63m Arsenal target – journalist

The summer transfer window is just around the corner, and it sounds as though a lot of Premier League business will be done early.

Indeed, top clubs are getting their ducks in a row, and a number of signings are already close to being completed.

Martin Zubimendi is set to join Arsenal, while Jeremie Frimpong is close to joining Liverpool.

Manchester United’s summer transfer budget remains up in the air ahead of the Europa League final, but the Red Devils are now potentially closing in on their first signing of the summer.

According to Ben Jacobs, speaking on Curtis Shaw TV, Manchester United are very keen on Wolves’ Matheus Cunha, and they believe they may just be days away from striking an agreement to sign the striker.

Manchester United believe Matheus Cunha deal is imminent

Jacobs spoke about Cunha’s situation.

Cunha’s agents met with Andrea Berta earlier this week as Arsenal continue to show interest in the attacker.

However, according to the journalist, Manchester United feel they’re incredibly close to agreeing a deal to sign Cunha, believing an agreement could be just days away.

“Yeah, Cunha’s agent and Andrea Berta go way back, and it would be normal for them to have a meeting. A meeting doesn’t necessarily mean Arsenal are going to enter the race,” Jacobs said.

“At this stage, we have Manchester United who feel they are only days or weeks away from agreeing terms with Cunha. Manchester United are prepared to trigger or match the £62.5m release clause so they’re the frontrunners. Therefore, I wouldn’t get overly excited if I was an Arsenal fan yet about the arrival of Cunha, but they have enquired.”

Arsenal targets who signed for Manchester United

Manchester United could be about to beat Arsenal to the signing of Cunha, and this wouldn’t be the first time the Red Devils have beaten the Gunners in a transfer race.

Indeed, Arsenal have gone for a few players over the years who ended up at Manchester United instead.

Arsenal bid for Lisandro Martinez before his move to Old Trafford, Mikel Arteta wanted Mason Mount before he joined United, while Arsene Wenger famously wanted Cristiano Ronaldo as a youngster.

Of course, Arsenal have also beaten United to some key players over the years too.

Aaron Ramsey was set for United as a youngster, while Cesc Fabregas could’ve joined United instead of Arsenal too.

These two clubs often do battle over the same targets, and it sounds as though it may well be United who come out on top in this war over Matheus Cunha.
