Liverpool aren’t wasting any time in the transfer market after becoming Premier League champions.

Indeed, the Reds are going to be improving from a position of strength this summer, and they’re already lining up some exciting deals.

Jeremie Frimpong is close to joining Liverpool, while Florian Wirtz has been linked to Liverpool this week.

Speaking on the Walk On Podcast, James Pearce has shared what he’s been hearing about Florian Wirtz after these links emerged.

There have been contrasting reports on Wirtz in recent days, and according to Pearce, this isn’t one to get too excited about.

James Pearce plays down Florian Wirtz to Liverpool rumours

Pearce spoke about Wirtz and his links to Anfield.

According to the journalist, there isn’t reason to get carried away here, claiming that Liverpool believe he will stay in Germany.

However, if Wirtz was open to coming to England, the Reds would be in the mix here.

“It’s been lively, hasn’t it? Yeah, it’s I suppose the biggest one obviously in terms of profile would be Florian Wirtz, David Ornstein reporting on The Athletic on Wednesday that Liverpool had made contact with his representatives. But you know, I think at the moment, my understanding is that I wouldn’t be getting too carried away with that one,” Pearce said.

“Liverpool, their indication up to this point is that he will remain in Germany, whether that’s staying at Leverkusen or moving to Bayern Munich, who have long since been linked with him. We know that obviously Man City are in the race as well. I don’t think it’s a case of working on a deal to sign him.

“I think it’s more a case of ensuring that if that was open to the idea of moving to England and the Premier League, that obviously Liverpool would want to make it clear that they want to be part of that conversation. I was told it wasn’t correct that Liverpool had a meeting with his family this week. Of course, most of the executives and all the rest of it, senior people at Liverpool have been away out of the country this week”

Florian Wirtz stats this season

Liverpool seemingly aren’t leading the race to sign Wirtz this summer, but if they were to pull this deal off, it would be a very exciting one.

Indeed, Wirtz is one of the most exciting young talents in Europe, and the stats show just how brilliant he is.

Florian Wirtz stats this season
Games 30
Goals 10
Assists 12

22 goal contributions in 30 games from an attacking midfield role is an incredible return, and that sort of threat could make Liverpool an even more dangerous team heading into next season.

Of course, as Pearce says, this deal isn’t necessarily imminent, so it isn’t time to get carried away, but Liverpool are in the mix here, and when a player this talented is being linked with a move to Anfield, it’s hard to not get excited.

Wirtz would be a big statement signing from Liverpool if they manage to pull this deal off.
