Report: Liverpool could now sign ‘outrageous’ player who wants Anfield move if they can’t get Florian Wirtz

3 Min Read

Liverpool have been plotting an ambitious move to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Germany international has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga for a couple of years now, and he is a wanted man.

Manchester City held face-to-face talks with Wirtz and his parents recently, and while on the same trip, Liverpool met with them too.

The Reds, however, are not the favourites for his signature, and they already have an alternative option if they cannot sign Wirtz this summer.

Liverpool could sign Rayan Cherki if they can’t get Florian Wirtz

Florian Wirtz really would be an amazing signing for Liverpool.

The 22-year-old has been incredible in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen, and several big clubs have been linked with a move to sign him.

The Reds would love to sign the German, but the feeling at Liverpool is that Wirtz will stay in Germany beyond the end of this summer’s transfer window.

That is a shame if you’re a Liverpool fan, but GiveMeSport have claimed that Arne Slot’s side have ‘refused to rule out the possibility of’ signing Rayan Cherki from Olympique Lyon.

The Frenchman, who has been hailed as an ‘outrageous’ talent by Dean Jones on the Ranks FC podcast, is set to leave his club this summer, and he has been linked with several big clubs over the last few months.

Reports have claimed that Tottenham are pushing to sign Cherki, but if GMS are to be believed, the 21-year-old is ‘hoping’ to sign for Liverpool.

As things stand, however, the Lyon star is having to remain patient as Liverpool are still exploring a move for Wirtz.

Liverpool can save millions if they sign Rayan Cherki instead of Florian Wirtz

Both Florian Wirtz and Rayan Cherki are brilliant players.

If given a choice, yes, we would take the Bayer Leverkusen star as well, but that doesn’t mean that the French attacker would be a bad option.

In fact, Cherki would be significantly cheaper than Wirtz and could help Liverpool save a lot of money if they signed him this summer.

Christian Falk revealed recently that Leverkusen’s price tag for Wirtz has been set at £126.1 million. Liverpool would have to smash their transfer record if they want him.

Cherki, on the other hand, has a release clause in his contract that makes him available for just £25 million this summer.
