Report: Mikel Arteta big fan of ‘underrated’ £84m attacker who Arsenal believe they can sign

Arsenal’s season has ultimately turned into a disappointing one, with the club set to finish without silverware once again.

They were considered among the favourites for the Premier League title at the start of the campaign, and while they briefly challenged Liverpool in the race, the Reds ended up winning it by a commanding 15-point margin.

The Gunners are also at risk of losing second place, with Newcastle and Manchester City just two and three points behind them, respectively.

Their Champions League hopes were dashed as well, with PSG knocking them out in the semi-finals.

Mikel Arteta must now put this season behind him and prepare to go again next year, with plans already underway to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Rodrygo Goes

One position Arsenal are particularly keen to strengthen this summer is their attack, with several high-profile names linked with a move. Among them is Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes.

TBR Football recently reported that Arsenal believe they can sign Rodrygo from Madrid this summer.

Now, The Athletic has added that Arteta is a big admirer of the Brazilian forward, who is considered one of Arsenal’s key targets alongside Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and long-standing target Nico Williams.

However, Arsenal face stiff competition from the Premier League champions, who are also pushing to sign the 24-year-old.

Reports claim that Liverpool have already initiated talks with Rodrygo ahead of the summer window.

The Reds have admired the 24-year-old for years, with reports claiming Liverpool even made a £84 million bid for Rodrygo last summer—an offer Real Madrid turned down at the time.

Rodrygo’s limited playing time at Real Madrid makes a move likely

Rodrygo, who has been described as “underrated” by Jude Bellingham, has struggled for regular minutes this season.

He lost his place in the starting XI following the arrival of Kylian Mbappe, and with Xabi Alonso set to take over as manager, Real Madrid have been linked with Florian Wirtz.

It is reported that Rodrygo is aware that Alonso’s interest in bringing Wirtz is a clear indication of his future role at the club under the Spaniard.

Given the circumstances, it is understood that the player is looking to leave the club. However, Rodrygo has been advised against a move to the Premier League.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal or Liverpool are prepared to spend big on the £84m-rated Brazilian this summer, who will no doubt massively improve their side.
