Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly among the clubs who have identified a Lazio star as a potential summer transfer target.

Both of the Midlands outfit can be satisfied with the outcome of their respective Premier League campaigns, particularly Forest who have secured a return to European football and are still in contention for Champions League qualification.

Regardless of what happens in their closing fixtures, both teams are expected to show ambition in the transfer market once it reopens in June.

There is the potential for some high-profile names to arrive at the City Ground and Molineux respectively, and it appears that the same player is on their shortlists.

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio star Valentin Castellanos is attracting the interest of both clubs and other teams across Europe.

The 26-year-old can claim to have enjoyed a strong campaign at Stadio Olimpico, contributing 14 goals and five assists from his 38 appearances in Serie A and the Europa League.

He has predominantly played down the middle of the Lazio attack, keeping them in contention for a top-four finish in the table.

As well as Forest and Wolves, the likes of West Ham United, Villarreal and Real Betis are all said to be monitoring any developments.

With three years remaining on the contract of the two-cap Argentina international, Lazio remain in a strong position to demand whatever they want for Castellanos’s signature.

Right now, it is suggested that they would consider offers providing that they are of at least €30m (£25.27m).

Is there a favourite?

Given Castellanos’s growing reputation, the assumption is that he would show preference to joining a club featuring in Europe should he depart Lazio.

That would rule out a club like Wolves unless Castellanos is won over by the project being put together by Vitor Pereira.

Forest would fancy their chances of attracting the versatile attacker to the City Ground, his ability to play in a number of positions benefitting all parties.

With a season having already been spent in La Liga with Girona, Castellanos may show preference to taking on a new challenge in a different country.
